A person’s life begins in the hands of a midwife, and ends in the hands of a nurse” Cardinal Antoine Kambanda Hails Nurses and Midwives as Lifelong Stewards

Rwandan Catholic prelate, Archbishop of Kigali, Reverend Antoine Kambanda, and Chancellor of the Ruli Higher Institute of Health in Gakenke district, which has recently opened a branch in Kigali, reminded student midwives and nurses of their profound societal roles.

A person’s life begins in the hands of a midwife and ends in the hands of a nurse,” he remarked. “This is a weighty responsibility that should never be taken for granted.”

These words were delivered by Antoine Cardinal Kambanda, Archbishop of Kigali and head of the Ruli Higher Institute of Health in Gakenke, on Friday, July 12th, 2024, during the official opening ceremony of the Institute’s Kigali branch.

The ceremony followed a celebratory Mass led by His Excellency Antoine Cardinal Kambanda at the Holy Family Parish Church (Paroisse Catholique Sainte Famille) within the Kigali Archdiocese.

In attendance were priests, nuns, students of the Ruli College, parents, teachers, and Christians from across the Archdiocese.

Cardinal Kambanda’s message to those gathered for the Ruli Higher Institute of Health’s inauguration in Kigali was clear: nurses and midwives play a crucial role throughout the course of a human life. He reminded them to take this “weighty mission” seriously
