Rwanda reaffirms commitment to adolescent health at the annual adolescent conference 2025

Today, Deputy Director General Jeanne Umuhire joined the Annual Adolescent Conference 2025 on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), a national platform that brings together young people from across Rwanda to lead conversations and shape solutions on issues affecting adolescents.

In her remarks, Umuhire reaffirmed Rwanda’s strong commitment to advancing the health and wellbeing of adolescents and young people through bold and youth-centered initiatives.

These include the establishment of Youth-Friendly Corners at health centers, the integration of comprehensive sexuality education in schools, and the implementation of the new Health Law, all aimed at empowering young people to confidently seek care, information, and support.

She emphasized that Rwanda continues to prioritize adolescent health as a foundation for the country’s sustainable development and social progress. “When young people are informed, healthy, and empowered, they become agents of change in their communities,” she noted.

Umuhire also challenged the youth to make the best use of the spaces and opportunities created by the Government of Rwanda and its partners to seek accurate information, ask critical questions, challenge harmful norms, and innovate for better access to health services.

The conference, held under the theme “Putting Adolescents First”, serves as a key moment to highlight progress, share experiences, and strengthen partnerships to ensure that every young person in Rwanda enjoys their right to quality health services and information.
